| Radhakrishna
|
Lord Krishna is always with His beloved Radha. Krishna is the eighth avatar (reincarnation) of Vishnu. He is represented as the cow-herd, playing on His flute. Radha, Krishna's eternal companion, is one of the gopis (milkmaids) who love to play and dance with Him. The devotion of Radha and Krishna to each other is symbolic of the relationship of God with each of His devotees. Radha and Krishna are often spoken of as RadhaKrishna, indicating that they are truly one. Their vigraha are carved of marble and come from the state of Rajasthan, India. |
| Jyothi | The Sri Meenakshi temple is the only temple in the world to have vigraha of Jyothi. The installation and consecration was on June 27, 1982. Jyothi is not a new deity, but was mentioned in the Skanda Purana. She is said to have been created by a spark of energy from Sakthi's forehead. She first was thought of as the Vel, the weapon of Lord Skanda, but later it was revealed that this Vel is not an instrument, but a deity in Her own right. Jyothi is considered to be the Kundalini Sakthi, which rises in our spine, and becomes Jnanambal or the Goddess of Wisdom in our foreheads. The repesentation in the Sri Meenakshi Temple is as a spirit of flame which is the base for the etching of a sixteen year old girl known as Balambika. |
