Siva/Sundareswara

As you face Goddess Meenakshi, Her husband Lord Sundareswara is on the left. He is worshipped in the Sri Meenakshi Temple in the form of a linga, which signifies the power of creation. This may seem contradictory to the concept Hindus have of Siva as the destroyer in the Hindu Trinity. However, it is an example of the manner in which creation, preservation, destruction and subsequent recreation are seen in Hinduism as part of an eternal cycle. The shiva -lingam is two feet high on a nine inch pedastal. Its material is the same black granite as the Sri Meenakshi vigraha. It was created in Kashi, India.
